YouTube Makes Changes to Improve Views and Engagement

YouTube has recently made some big changes in an effort to improve the user experience and boost engagement too. YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world, so publishing videos gives people a huge exposure. Whether you are a singer, actor, graphic designer, or company, YouTube can be an excellent resource to help you get exposure in the video medium. The latest changes include improvement to the commenting system, offline video viewing on mobile, and the 1st ever YouTube Music Awards.

Improved YouTube Comment Moderation

Since YouTube started, the comments posted by users have been notoriously negative. It is a strange phenomenon and has always been a quandary as to why such odd and negative comments are elicited by this network over other outlets that allow commenting.  YouTube listened to the feedback from both users and publishers regarding the strange commentary found on videos and have made some major adjustments that give more control to the publishers. Comments are now powered by Google Plus and include a ranking system. The YouTube blog post explains, “When you’re watching a video on YouTube, you’ll see comments sorted by people you care about first. If you post videos on your channel, you also have more tools to moderate welcome and unwelcome conversations. This way, YouTube comments will become conversations that matter to you.” Video publishers now have the ability to:

  • Move comments you care about to the top.
  • Switch views from “top comments” to “newest first”.
  • Comments and conversations about videos can be public or private. Options to include everyone, people in your Google Plus Circles, or only specific people are available.
  • The replies will be threaded like in Gmail to make conversations easier to follow.
  • Comment moderation features have been expanded allowing video owners the ability to automatically reject posts with certain words and automatically approve comments from particular users.

YouTube Adds Offline Viewing Option

This month, YouTube will be launching this brand new option on their mobile application. Offline viewing of videos will be available to mobile app users to watch videos they add to their smartphone or mobile device for viewing later. The idea from YouTube for giving the option for users to view videos without an internet connection not only increases the ability for users to watch videos, but also gives more opportunities for video publishers  to connect with their fans and followers.

YouTube Video Awards

The 1st ever YouTube Music Video Awards just finished and the winners were just announced. This is very likely to grow in popularity and increase the awareness and viewership of musicians that are on YouTube. It seems ironic that television stations worldwide still air the MTV Music Awards, when clearly YouTube plays 100% more music and features more musician than the “Music Television Channel” does. Soon you will be able to tweak your surround sound system and television viewing with Selby Acoustics  to watch the YouTube Music Awards that will probably be syndicated worldwide in the future.
